About Us
The University of Cyprus (UCY) was established in 1989 and has today around 4,000 undergraduate and 700 graduate students, and 400 faculty-members and staff. The Department of Computer Science (http://www.cs.ucy.ac.cy/) is one of the five departments of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences in the University of Cyprus. The Department has a full-time staff of 21 faculty members, 5 visiting-faculty members, 3 teaching-staff members, over 40 full-time researchers, over 200 undergraduate and 100 postgraduate students. The research interests of the Department vary from purely theoretical and foundational topics to applied systems and networking research. Over the last years, the Department has been continuing and strengthening its collaborations with other universities and research institutions all over the world, expanding its research into new areas attracting over 130 research project accounting to over 13M Euros.
The Data Management Systems Laboratory (DMSL - http://dmsl.cs.ucy.ac.cy) belongs to the Computer Science Department and focuses on Data Engineering Systems and Knowledge Discovery Solutions for emerging networks and systems (smartphone, sensor, crowd, peer-to-peer, etc.)" DMSL is the newest laboratory of the Department, established in 2010, currently employing 2 postdoc researcher, 1 PhD candidate, 3 M.Sc student and 2 undergraduate assistants. DMSL has recently implemented a 80K Euros infrastructure development grant to setup a state-of-the-art hardware testbed of 50+ smartphone devices to enable research in that areas. DMSL is hosted in a 10-seat laboratory, located in the brand-new university campus in Aglantzia, Nicosia.
